How it's made

THE WONDERLAND CUP

Romy envisioned a cup with the perfect sipping rim, balancing form and function. This idea came to life in a timeless design, shaped carefully by hand.

Every cup is hand-shaped by Romy, from the curve of its form to the delicate rim. Even the small foot at the base is carefully sculpted with intention. Each detail reflects her hands-on artistry and love for the craft.

After Romy sculpts the prototype by hand, Royal Goedewaagen creates a mold to shape the cups. In the meantime, Romy paints each decoration by hand with delicate watercolors, adding her personal touch to every design. The illustrations for the Wonderland Cup are inspired by lucky charms, a recurring theme in her creations.

Once the samples are approved, Royal Goedewaagen begins casting the cups with great care, working within a limited number that can be produced each day. Each piece is then biscuit-fired, giving the clay its first strength and durability.

At this stage, the cups are ready to receive their hand-applied colors, setting the foundation for the designs that follow. Each cup is then individually glazed by hand, ensuring a smooth finish and unique character. Once glazed, they are carefully fired again, sealing in their vibrant tones and preparing them for Romy’s artwork.

After the cups receive their color, each drawing is applied by hand, making every piece truly one of a kind. No two cups are ever the same, each carrying its own character and charm. Finally, they are given a last firing, emerging ready to be cherished in daily use.
